Build For Magni?
Well, to start with, i can beat almost ALL of the characters in the beginning of the Norn Fighting Tourny. I have beaten Magni The Bison ONCE out of a somewhat lucky break.
Any ideas on tactics, builds etc for this beastly fool? Any would be appreciated!

secondary Rt and spirit spam
[skill]bloodsong[/skill][skill]shadowsong[/skill][skill]pain[/skill] should work
also a few people have suggested vampirism from other threads to deal with Mhenlo
you could throw [skill]wanderlust[/skill] on there too if you wanted but I prefer to use Ursan Blessing as the elite
Magni along with the 6 before him go down easy this way

I feel sorry for a Ranger that can't devise a build to beat MELEE... Cripple + Interrupts + Degen > Norn Tourny.

considering that some random spectator now heals your opponents, i'd say degen is a very bad way to go about this.

The melee aspect isn't the biggest issue, but the fact that magni hits for like 200hp per hit at times. It's brazenly unfair, but challemge is what we crave.

before, i can just run a cripshot and plink everything to death with well-timed interrupts and degen. now with that stupid dwarf healing, it's now impossible to play the norn tournament without using a spike build. and i think we all know just how well rangers spike (for those who don't know: not well).

Actually I use a Beast Master build and it takes Bison and the rest of them out everytime. Let your pet apply degen, poison / bleed, you can use " heal as one " which is very spamable and costs next to nothing to keep your pet alive and to rez it quickly when Bison wipes it out and rest assured he will. He'll try and dismiss the condition but by equipping distracting shot you can fix that problem as your pet is applying the degen. The other tactic is to bring along " You move like a dwarf " this will knock down and damage him and most of all cripple him for a bit which allows you to run around screaming like a little girl and bring your pet back from the dead to rinse and repeat the process until he is dead.
So pretty much, cripple, degen, and stay away from him. You go toe to toe with him as a ranger I'd like to see it

Here's what I use
[skill]Hammer Bash[/skill][skill]Crushing Blow[/skill][skill]Holy Strike[/skill][skill]Irresistible Blow[/skill][skill]Signet of Judgment[/skill][skill]Bane signet[/skill][skill]Staggering Blow[/skill][skill]Restful breeze[/skill]
- To defeat all the guys fights 1-5: Hammer Bash - Crushing - SoJ - Irresistible blow - Holy Strike
The only one I had trouble with was the spirit guy( I think it was razzah, fought him once or twice ), you have to time out SoJ so you KD him in range to get a crushing blow on him and soon enough to get his bloodsong.
Agaisnt air elementalists with blind you will have to restful breeze and use the combo when you find a window between his blinds.
To defeat Magni is the easiest part : SoJ - Holy Strike - Bane signet - Holy Strike whille running around until you get his health down.
They seriously gotta give Magni a running skill.

Try Ebon Dust Aura -
I used
[skill]Called Shot[/skill][skill]Screaming Shot[/skill][skill]Distracting Shot[/skill][skill]Apply Poison[/skill][skill]Ebon Dust Aura[/skill][skill]Troll Unguent[/skill][skill]Rending Touch[/skill][skill]Antidote Signet[/skill]
with 9+4 Expertise, 9+1 Marksmanship, 9+1 Wilderness, 9 Earth Prayers.
The antidote signet was great versus Gwen and other blinding types, the Rending Touch is handy to strip enchants, everything else is degen and blind or interrupt.

[skill]Throw Dirt[/skill][skill]Jagged Strike[/skill][skill]Fox Fangs[/skill][skill]Death Blossom[/skill][skill]Moebius Strike[/skill][skill]Horns of the Ox[/skill][skill]Blinding Powder[/skill][skill]Lightning Reflexes[/skill]
Turn on Lightning Reflexes and hit him with Jagged Strike, he will go to remove it with Purge Signet after which you use Fox Fangs -> Blinding Powder. Then go into Moebius -> DB spam, reapply blind with Throw Dirt, and when he gets below 50% pwn him with Moebius -> Horns.
Not sure if this works after the spectator healing crap though. I still run spirit spam, why use a complicated method when a simple one works ^_^

I have had spectators heal me and my pet so this is going both ways it would seem for that issue.

I use a packhunter build:
[card]Spear of Lightning[/card][card]Blazing Spear[/card][card]Merciless Spear[/card][card]Poisonous Bite[/card][card]Tiger's Fury[/card][card]Heal As One[/card][card]Charm Animal[/card]Norn skill: You Move Like a Dwarf!
Using a spear and a stance shield, if i can i use you move like a dwarf to interupt his form change, if not, just as a snare to make sure you can kite effectively. he will most likely target your pet, make sure you poison him, and burn him whenever posible, whacking him all the time with spear of lightning. He will heal himself with purge sig, don't worry, just reapply the conditions. Theres no DP for the pet, so make sure Magni is crippled and use heal as one to keep your pet up and running whenever Magni blasts him into oblivion.
once hes below 50% health, slap a deep wound on him and degen/spear of lightning his bum back to bear town.

Standard Cripshot beats almost anything one vs one. And pwns all over melee.
And erm..

This worked for well for me on Magni but does require "running laps" and timing the interrupts. Almost a pure ranger build so the secondary doesn't matter.
[card]Burning Arrow[/card] [card]Screaming Shot[/card] [card]Troll Unguent[/card] [card]Poison Tip Signet[/card] [card]Distracting Shot[/card] [card]Natural Stride[/card] [card]Pin Down[/card] [card]"You Move Like a Dwarf"[/card]
Basically, use the first poison shot to sucker his purge signet and then be ready with a distracting shot followed by pin down, then pile on the bleeding, burning and reapply the poison. The Dwarven skill is a sweet interrupt as well as a cripple inducer.
If done perfectly, the bison should never touch you...but you can live though a couple of his whacks and still get the job done.
**as a side note, I didn't notice the spectators healing the opponents tonight but they were as of yesterday.

MBP, thanks for your tip. I have a paragon primary and used a rit secondary. Ursan Blessing at Rank 3 with mending refrain for a Paragon rocks. Its all you need to take out any of the first 5. But for Bison, the 3 spirits quoted above, namely pain, bloodsong, and shadow song, throw in vampirism and painful bond. Quickly cast the spirits just outside the door closes behind you. Go ahead and pull Bison. As he approaches, cast painful bond on him and watch the fireworks. Once he is half health, change to Bear and quickly finish him off. Blind and Bear ftw.

[skill]Burning Arrow[/skill][skill]Pin Down[/skill][skill]Savage Shot[/skill][skill]Apply Poison[/skill][skill]Favorable Winds[/skill]
FW hugging the wall before you leave your room, Apply Poison at the door, BA at him, he purges it, Pin down at him, run and BA amd run and BA and Pin Down and AP... the drill...
while you run he is distracted by the spirit and WILL leave you alone for a bit...
the other skill i use with Whirling Defense, Lightning Reflexes and Throw Dirt... they may come in handy.
good luck

Nice to know that ones work is appreciated I use that build for most pve.
However, i have come round to the idea that a spirit spammer is more efficient at taking down the norn tourney.
[card]Wanderlust[/card][card]Pain[/card][card]Vampirism[/card][card]Shadowsong[/card][card]Comfort Animal[/card][card]Charm Animal[/card][card]"You Move Like A Dwarf!"[/card][card]Serpent's Quickness[/card]
edit: where am i going wrong with "Vampirism"? the card doesnt seem to be working, not on the system?
high expertise and just a little WS with some powerful rit skills can make it fairly easy. The pet isnt even needed, i just like to add a bit of dmg. and an extra distraction for magni if he bursts thru the spirits.
